Financial decisions are easier when you understand what you are deciding, and easier still when you know exactly who you are working with. This page collects the documents that describe how we operate, along with materials meant to help you think through common financial questions.

Firm Documents

Know who you are working with. Before you hire any financial adviser, including us, you should read their disclosure documents and verify their registration. Below are ours.

Questions to ask any adviser

You are entitled to clear answers to all of these, from us or from anyone else you are considering.

Why ask this question?

Compensation shapes advice. An adviser paid by a third party has an interest that may not match yours, and you cannot evaluate a recommendation without knowing what sits behind it.

Some professionals act as a fiduciary for part of a relationship and under a lower standard for the rest, often without saying which is which in the moment.

Every adviser registered in the United States files a public disclosure document. If someone is reluctant to point you to theirs, that is information too.

Commissions, revenue sharing, and proprietary funds create incentives that influence what gets recommended and what does not.

How we would answer

We are a fee only firm. You pay us directly, by check, transfer, or card. Nobody else pays us anything. Our only revenue is client fees.

We are a fiduciary in every engagement, at every point in it. We are obligated to put your interests ahead of our own.

Q3: Will you have custody of my money, or authority to trade it?

Q4: How is your fee calculated?

Q5: Where can I verify what you have told me?

Custody and discretion are separate from advice. Knowing who can move your money, and who cannot, is basic.

A fee based on assets rises as your portfolio does, whether or not the work changes. A fee based on work is easier to evaluate. Make sure you know what the fee is in dollar terms, not percentage terms.

Neither. Your assets stay at the institution you choose. We cannot withdraw funds, and we cannot buy or sell anything in your accounts. Every decision is yours.

Hourly, fixed project fee, or fixed monthly fee, agreed in writing before work begins. No fee we charge is based on the size of your portfolio.

Q6: Do you sell products, or earn commissions?

We sell nothing. No commissions, no sales charges, no revenue sharing, no 12b-1 fees, no compensation from any fund company or insurer.

Question

Q1: How are you paid, and by whom?

Q2: Are you a fiduciary, all the time?
